China MMA first quarter summary on supply

[Introduction] With the growth of production capacity, according to the statistics, China’s MMA output will reach 300,000 tons in the first quarter of 2022, an increase of 13.75% over the same period last year. Imports declined compared to the same period last year, but overall, China’s supply continued to increase.

According to statistics, as of the first quarter of 2022, the domestic MMA production capacity reached 1.83 million tons, an increase of 275,000 tons from the end of 2021, a year-on-year increase of 17.68%. Among them, only Shandong Province and East China accounted for 68%.


In the first quarter of 2022, domestic MMA production increased with capacity growth compared with last year, but due to the limited release of new production capacity, the change in production growth was limited, with a year-on-year increase of 13.75%. Due to the reduction of some factories in the middle and late March to April, the output in April is expected to be lower than that in March, and it is expected to be below the level of 100,000 tons.

Imports in January-February 2022 fell by 40.83% year-on-year
According to customs statistics, the cumulative import volume of methacrylates in my country from January to February 2022 was 17,703.26 tons, down 40.83% from the same period last year. Among them, mainly from China Taiwan, Germany, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, etc., with a cumulative proportion of 78.30%, and the import areas are mainly in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Summarizing the market supply trend in the first quarter, it increased slightly compared with the same period last year, and the output maintained steady growth. With the increase in China’s MMA production capacity and supply, in the long run, the import dependence is expected to further decline, but the overall supply side shows a growth trend.
