[Chinese market review]: MA exports above 10,000 tonnes in October 2022

[Introduction]: In October 2022, China’s maleic anhydride exports were at 10,305.54 tonnes, down 9% YoY. The largest export volume was to Turkey, at 3,337.78 t. The cumulative export volume from January to October 2022 was at 150,499.49 t, up 34% YoY.

In October 2022, the export volume of maleic anhydride was at 10,300 tons, a decrease of 988 tons from September, down 8.85% YoY; compared to October 2021, the trade volume has declined. And from the second half of the year, the export trend of maleic anhydride, affected by the economic environment, is significant. Export data showed a downward trend.

In terms of specific trade volumes, the top four export regions in October were Turkey, Brazil, India and the UAE, exporting 3,337.78 tonnes, 959 tonnes, 925 tonnes and 570 tonnes, respectively, with trade volumes accounting for 32%, 9%, 9% and 6% respectively. This month’s export regions totalled 30 countries, compared to three fewer in September. The distribution of export regions is more scattered, mainly concentrated in the Middle East and Africa region, the European region trade volume has decreased.

From the perspective of specific trading countries, the trade volume of the top three countries has changed considerably, most of them have different degrees of decline; the trade volume of Turkey, which leads the trade in October, increased by 1274 tons in October, an increase of 61.73%, while the rest of the countries, Brazil decreased by 296 tons, a decrease of 23.59%, India decreased by 2395 tons, a decrease of 72.14%; within the European region, the highest trade volume was Germany, with trade volumes at 225 tonnes, followed by Italy at 198 tonnes.

The current global economic recession concerns still exist, coupled with the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, thus leading to the recent active foreign trade market resulting in an unstable and inactive chemical industry chain running in various countries. As for the domestic market, domestic trade prices have reached a new low for the year. However, with the gradual relaxation of the domestic epidemic policy, the upstream and downstream are expected to recover gradually, and the gradual stabilization of the supply chain is also worth looking forward to.
