Introduction: China imported 1000 tonnes of PTA in September. The export volume was 380,700 tons, up 90,700 tonnes (31.27%) from the same period last year. September PTA exports increased because of two main factors. Firstly, China is developing the strategy of “bringing in” and “going global”. The export volume to surrounding Asian regions such as Egypt, Vietnam, Turkey and Oman has steadily increased. Secondly, it is because major PTA producers in India have suspended production for maintenance, so imports from China increased.

China exported 380,700 tonnes of PTA in September, a 31% increase on last year. Most went to Asia. India was the main region for PTA import this month, with 97,600 tons (25.65%). Turkey and Oman were the second and third largest importers, with 79,700 tons(20.95%) and 46,000 tons(12.08%).Vietnam imported 37,700 tons(9.90%), while Egypt imported 30,000 tons(7.88%).
In September, Jiangsu Province exported 131,400 tonnes of PTA, making it the top export origin in China. Liaoning Province dropped to second place, while Shandong Province rose to third. Liaoning and Shandong exported 116,400(30.58%)and 40,600 tonnes(10.71%).Guangdong and Fujian followed, with 37,200(9.78%) and 30,600 tonnes(8.03%).
In September, there are few PTA imports because 4.5 million tonnes of new PTA capacity have been put into production in China this year. There is now more polyester manufactured in China using domestic PTA. The late domestic PTA industry will continue to export a lot and import little. October is the industry’s traditional peak season, and the export volume may not change much compared with that in September. In October, the industry will probably export about 400,000 tonnes of PTA.
